We’re on the Hunt for Junior Paleontologists to Join Us!

Do you know your Australovenators from your Muttaburrasauruses? Can you distinguish between the Triassic and Jurrassic periods and wax lyrical about the prehistoric creatures that once ruled the world?

Erth and World Science Festival Brisbane are on the hunt for two dinosaur loving junior palaeontologists to be part of the exciting production Erth’s Prehistoric Picnic for its limited run during World Science Festival Brisbane in March 2023.

Erth’s Prehistoric Picnic is a live educational theatre show led by two hosts; Erth’s Artistic Director, and an enthusiastic new recruit who will talk directly to the audience about the creatures featured in the show.

For the shows during World Science Festival Brisbane from 22-26 March, Erth are on the look out for two young budding dinosaur experts aged between 10 and 12 to star alongside the team.

Are you our next dino-star?

About Erth Visual & Physical Inc.

Erth brings the impossible to life. Over 30 years, the company has developed a truly fantastic aesthetic and an extraordinary box of tricks, the foundations of its unique visual theatre works. The company regularly tours internationally, to every major Australian festival, and to regional and major city venues around the country.

More than a million people have seen its dinosaurs in museums and in performance works such as Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo™ and Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium.

Erth’s works range from large-scale interactive environments, such as The Garden, a prehistoric landscape inhabited by giant insects, through to more intimate in-theatre works and outdoor roving spectaculars.

Erth’s Prehistoric Picnic

Erth’s Prehistoric Picnic was devised during the company’s artist in residency at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney in 2021-22. The show premiered at the 2022
Sydney Festival with seasons at RBG Sydney and Parramatta Park, followed by Darwin Festival.

Now proudly showing at World Science Festival Brisbane in March, visitors can witness some of the most amazing dinosaurs and megafauna to have ever walked this Earth.

About Erth’ Prehistoric Picnic Puppets

In Erth’s Prehistoric Picnic, the dinosaurs are portrayed by puppets.

The main style of puppetry used in Erth’s Prehistoric Picnic is a modified style of “Bunraku” (bun-rah-koo) puppetry, a form of puppetry that originated in Japan over 400 years ago.

In Bunraku, there are usually several puppeteers who manipulate the puppet directly and are visible throughout the play rather than being hidden.

Usually three puppeteers will operate a single puppet in Bunraku – each puppeteer is responsible for moving a different part of the body.
