Sandra Tuszynska is a mycologist (a fungi scientist) and a soil microbiologist with a special interest in fungi and their wondrous mycelium. During her PhD research, Sandra studied the cellular mechanisms of root symbiotic fungi and their ability to detoxify heavy metals to protect trees. This allowed her to understand the superpowers of fungi as nature’s nurturers, regenerators, protectors and innovators.
As Woodfordia Inc.’s Environmental Projects Officer, Sandra leads and coordinates the Mycology Research Project, which engages citizen scientists in learning about, innovating with, and contributing to, the conservation of Australian fungi. As a passionate public speaker and educator, Sandra hopes to inspire others to work with the magic of fungi.
