Curiocity Brisbane returns this winter to energise the cultural heart of Brisbane city with a world of discovery over 17 days of immersive science, art and technology, inspiring curious minds of all ages.

Award winning artists, scientists, engineers, designers, students and storytellers have created 20 physical and digital installations, known as Curiocity Artworks, that will challenge and delight visitors of all ages.

Curiocity Brisbane 2022 artist Georgie Pinn is a multimedia artist and creative director of interactive installations, film, animation, theatre and music. Her work has been presented internationally at major cultural centres such as the Barbican in London and Fed Square in Melbourne.

At Curiocity Brisbane 2022, Georgie will present a large scale interactive public sculpture. The artwork, named OHCE/ECHO, uses live generative animation, high-end facial capture technology and projection-mapped storytelling.

Visitors to OHCE/ECHO can literally embed themselves into the artwork by capturing their portraits and projecting them onto a seven-metre tall continuously changing face projection.

Curiocity Brisbane is a meeting point for art, science and innovation. Georgie believes that science should be shared with everyone, in an accessible and clear way. She says that science helps give us a sense of wonder and curiosity, encourages us to find better ways of doing things, and it helps us look after ourselves and our planet.

As a giant storytelling device, OHCE/ECHO encourages us to challenge our own preconceived biases by helping put us in another person’s shoes, or in this case by shapeshifting through another person’s face and story. OHCE/ECHO explores empathy, prejudice and helps make us aware of our own choices and perspectives.

The artwork ECHO was originally created in the gaming software Unity and then developed further into OHCE with over 40,000 portraits from its international tour. The generative software Touchdesigner was used to create an interactive and immersive console interface that the audience controls.

Explore Georgie Pinn’s artwork OHCE/ECHO during Curiocity Brisbane from 24 June to 10 July.
