Famous for its melons and a renowned spot for fishing, bushwalking and camping, the colourful country town of Chinchilla is a two-hour drive from Toowoomba.

 

This beautifully peaceful part of Queensland is the perfect place to experience country atmosphere at its best. Things to see and do in Chinchilla include:

Chinchilla Historical Museum

An ‘old time’ experience for the whole family, Chinchilla Museum offers insight into the unusual – a fascinating glimpse into a district rich in cattle, grain, sheep and timber – and more recently melons, grapes, stone fruits and vegetables.

Chinchilla Weir

Located on the Condamine River approximately 8km southeast of Chinchilla, the weir is suitable for all vessels types and is a popular destination for watersports and fishing. There is also a free campsite at the weir with power provided.

Lapunyah Art Gallery

The Lapunyah Art Gallery is a volunteer-run gallery presenting touring exhibitions and artworks from local and visiting artists. With free entry, the gallery showcases up to 20 exhibitions per year, official exhibition previews, and Artist’s Walks. There are also arts and crafts workshops for children and artists, and beautiful unique arts and crafts for sale. (Image Visitor Centre).
