JAMES THE RAT KING is an immersive multimedia experience narrating the story of the Bubonic Plague in Brisbane between 1900 and 1907. This epidemic caused widespread fear, panic and hasty health responses. JAMES THE RAT KING presents an overview, in a fairy-tale setting, of this much-feared disease. It offers a scientific and historical perspective and comparison to our current circumstances of living through a pandemic.

View snippets of the animated film and learn more about our plague history by scanning the QR codes spread along the “The Rat Route” from the Maritime Museum to the State Library of Queensland.
