Floating Nature
Fri 12 March, 2021-Sun 28 March, 2021
South Bank

Created by: Skunk Control From: VIC, Australia

An overhead floating landscape of Queensland Northern Banksias (also called Jingana), creates an ever-changing and vivid colour landscape. Colours alter throughout the day. Light interacts with the Banksia leaves as they reflect, diffract and transmit light, day and night. The leaves are arranged as in nature (Fibonacci arrangement) so as to maximise their contact with sunlight. The altering vivid colour shadows produced will paint the landscape and the audience below.

About the Creators

Skunk Control are a team of artists and engineers/scientists with differing disciplines. Collectively they design and create works and spaces (incorporating mechatronics, electronic, optics and alternative technologies) that delight and provide audiences with opportunities to engage in joyous journeys and re-connect with their formative years when their senses were engaged in exponential activity and discovery. Alongside their works, the team also produce and run hands-on outreach programs that strengthen the link between the community, the creative works they produce, the art and the science/technology that underpins them.
