Peter Koopman

Peter Koopman is Professor of Developmental Biology at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience of the University of Queensland, Brisbane. He is best known for his role in discovering the Y-chromosomal ‘maleness’ gene SRY. His team studies the genetic pathways that regulate the sex and other aspects of embryo development, using CRISPR to probe gene function in mice. His research has attracted many international and national awards, and he is a frequent spokesperson for issues of contemporary genetics, inherited disorders, stem cell biology and genome editing.
