Norelle Daly

Norelle Daly is a Professor of Structural Biology at James Cook University (JCU) in Cairns. Her research uses NMR spectroscopy to study protein components called peptides, and particularly those with therapeutic potential. Work over her career has been pivotal in determining the structures of peptides from plants, cone-snails, parasites, spiders, bacteria and frogs. Her work at JCU focuses on applications for these peptides in wound healing and inflammatory disease.

During her PhD, Norelle determined the first structure of a ligand-binding repeat of the LDL receptor that is highly prevalent in nature. She then joined Professor David Craik’s laboratory at the University Queensland, where she received an NHMRC Industry Fellowship and a Queensland Smart State Fellowship, and helped to establish a completely new field of study into circular proteins. In 2012 she established a structural biology/peptide chemistry laboratory at JCU, after being awarded an ARC Future Fellowship.
