Mike Doran completed a BSc (Genetics) and BEng (Chemical) at the University of Alberta in Canada, then worked as a Project Manager for Exxon (Oil and Gas). He relocated to Australia to study Biomedical Engineering, graduating with a PhD from University of New South Wales in 2006. In 2010 he established an independent research group at QUT, where he is currently a lecturer in the School of Biomedical Sciences and a Group Leader at the Translational Research Institute. His research focuses on bone development, and specifically on cartilage and bone repair, blood stem cell expansion, and cancer metastasis to the bone.
