Kathryn Futrega

Dr Kathryn Futrega graduated with a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from QUT in February 2016, under the supervision of Dr Bill Lott (QUT) and Prof Kerry Atkinson (QUT/UQCCR). Prior to this she completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc, Honours) in Biochemistry with a specialisation in biotechnology from the University of Waterloo, Canada. Her research approach looks to exploit engineering solutions to maximise the therapeutic potential of stem cells through ex vivo manipulation and to understand how such manipulations can prime cells to behave in vivo.

Over her PhD, Dr Futrega was author on 10 publications, including 5 first author publications. Dr Futrega’s research has been awarded with “best poster” at the Prostate Cancer World Congress (2013) and “best talk” at the Cure Cancer Conference (2015), and was selected for an oral presentation at the Australasian Society for Stem Cell Research (2014).
