Anna-Maria Arabia

Anna-Maria is Chief Executive of the Australian Academy of Science (AAS), an independent organisation that provides authoritative and influential scientific advice, represents Australia on key international scientific bodies and builds public awareness and understanding of science. With 20 years’ experience in science, Anna-Maria has led significant reform in global engagement for the AAS, addressing policy matters and gender equity in science.
Starting her career as a neuroscience researcher, Anna-Maria worked in Australia and abroad, before applying her skills to policy development, spanning the public service and politics. She has held executive positions across the science sector including as CEO of Science and Technology Australia and Deputy Director at Questacon. Anna-Maria is a strategic and dispassionate advocate for science, social justice, diversity and inclusion.
