Combining biology, chemistry and physics, biomedical science is a fascinating field. Medical research studies the genetic and environmental causes of disease, and explores their prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Today, translational research enables scientists to take discoveries from the laboratory bench to the hospital bed. QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading medical research institute focused on research into cancer, infectious diseases, mental health and chronic disorders. Apprentices will have the chance to learn techniques working with DNA as a tool to study human evolution and migration of populations by studying an individual family’s genetics.
