Summary
The north Queensland rainforest has been home to the Western Yalanji people for thousands of years. Join Johnny Murison (Chairperson, Western Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation) and Nick Hadnutt (Archaeology Curator, Queensland Museum) as they recount their recent trek deep into the rainforest to record a culturally significant tree carving (dendroglyph). They explain how they combine cutting edge 3D technology including photogrammetry, 3D modelling and printing with fibreglass modelling to provide new ways of sharing Aboriginal cultural heritage.
The rescue mission to preserve this rare and endangered dendroglyph was powered by Project DIG a partnership between Queensland Museum and BHP.
