Hannah Herbst

Hannah Herbst, a 16 year-old from Boca Raton, Florida, won the 2015 Discovery Education and 3M Young Scientist Challenge. She is currently a fully dual enrolled 10th Grader at Florida Atlantic University High School and freshman at Florida Atlantic University. Herbst created an ocean energy probe prototype that seeks to offer a stable power source to developing countries by using untapped energy from ocean currents. This innovation was inspired by Hannah’s desire to help her ten-year-old pen pal living in Sub-Saharan Africa, where many people live in energy poverty without access to electricity. Most recently, Herbst has discussed her research at the White House Science Fair, the United Nations, and has received honors from the United States Congress, the Society of Women Engineers, Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes. Herbst has a passion for STEM Education and helping others locally and globally.
