Whether you’re a local passing through the city to pick up a takeaway coffee from your favourite hole-in-the-wall, or a visitor to Brisbane exploring the CBD for the first time – discovering Brisbane’s hidden laneways is an essential addition to your urban wanderings.

Eagle Lane and Hutton Lane, City

Venture into the heart of Brisbane and discover outdoor galleries adorning laneway spaces as part of the World Science Festival Brisbane. Experience the intersection of science and art in both Eagle Lane and Hutton Lane, with artwork selected by local curator Jay Younger adorning both laneways. Drawing on inspiration from science in an urban setting, the project is based on the festival theme of ‘Rethink Science’. Brisbane City Council’s Vibrant Laneways program transforms previously overlooked spaces and invites visitors to explore Brisbane from a new angle.

Friday Night Laneways: Organic Data

Once you’ve explored the World Science Festival Brisbane’s Friday program, why not wander further into South Brisbane to quirky Fish Lane with its bustling little bars and restaurants. In conjunction with the festival, the laneway is set to showcase a display inspired by ‘Organic Data’. Mixing music, art and science, the Fish Lane project will include light projections and sampled sounds that fuse the analogue and digital. On Friday 11 March, the laneway will come alive with a projection by digital artist Alinta Krauth and roving animations by writer and hypermedia artist Jason Nelson. Catch live performances by musician and DJ Craig Parry, and Triple J Unearthed electronic artist and Griffith University Conservatorium lecturer, Puzahki.

Friday 11 March, 6-10pm
